Tour Description
The Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel are top of everybody’s list the first time they visit Rome. So extensive and impressive is the Vatican’s collection that this is perfectly understandable. But because of how the Vatican sets out its masterpieces, almost every Vatican tour is the same.
That’s why I’ve created this Vatican Advanced tour. Aimed at returning visitors to the Vatican, it takes you slightly off the beaten path to visit some of the lesser-seen masterpieces by Raphael, Caravaggio, and others. You still see the unmissable highlights, including the Raphael Rooms and Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. But because this is an advanced tour, we don’t linger on the basic or superficial information but go more into detail on the meatier stories and contexts around the masterpieces we see.

While most tour groups entering the Vatican Museums make a beeline for the Egyptian Collection and Gallery of the Candelabara, we’ll peel off into the lesser-known Pinacoteca Gallery where a world of paintings and tapestries await us.
Works of Raphael which once adorned the Sistine Chapel await us here, as do intriguing artworks by a host of other world-famous Renaissance and Baroque artists. We’ll also view the young Raphael’s frescoed masterpieces in the so-called ‘Raphael Rooms‘ – papal apartments and administrative offices which are among the most awe-inspiring rooms not just in the Vatican, but in Italy.
