Uncover the hidden historical treasures of the Jewish Ghetto

A curious blend of ancient, medieval and modern, the Jewish Ghetto is one of Rome’s most fascinating neighborhoods. At the end of its kosher bar and restaurant-lined high street are ancient attractions: the Portico of Octavia and the Theatre of Marcellus,  which stand in the shadow of the more recent Jewish temple – the synagogue of Tempio Maggiore.

We’ll learn all about these fascinating attractions, taking a break to sample some authentic Roman-Jewish street food to fully immerse ourselves in the culture. We’ll then cross over the River Tiber, traversing Ponte Fabricio, one of Rome’s ancient bridges, as we make our way into the district of Trastevere.

Explore the trendy neighborhood of Trastevere

Literally meaning ‘across the Tevere (the modern Italian word for the River ‘Tiber’), Trastevere is a beautiful neighborhood of cobbled streets, authentic restaurants and a buzzing nightlife.

I’ll show you around Trastevere, sharing my highlights and recommendations with you, and giving you an insight into the history and legends of this truly unique area. We’ll venture into the Church of Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of Rome’s oldest, and admire the artistic intricacy of its stunning mosaics. We can also cross back over the river to visit Campo de’ Fiori, one of Rome’s most famous piazzas, should you wish to see it!
